Marketed as the lightest 12-point crampons, they are purpose-built for ski mountaineering and glacier travel where weight savings and reliability matter on long ascents and technical approaches.

Construction blends a 3-D pressed frame with a thoughtfully shaped front platform. This 3-D geometry distributes the load from a single contact point across the entire front, enhancing strength and durability without adding unnecessary bulk. If you’ve ever felt pressure hotspots during a climb, this design aims to smooth the ride across varied snow and ice conditions.

Key benefits at a glance

Extremely lightweight 12-point crampon design for ski mountaineering

3-D pressed frame enhances strength and performance

Automatic bindings fit most rigid mountaineering boots

CC4U wear indicators show when replacement is due

Dynamic anti-balling plates and carrying case included

Secure, versatile fit for a range of boots

The automatic bindings are designed to fit most rigid mountaineering boots, including A/T and telemark models with full toe and heel welts. The result is a secure, streamlined connection that reduces movement while you hike, traverse, or rise onto steeper ice-free sections. While aluminum provides a balance of lightness and strength, CAMP notes these crampons are not intended for dedicated ice climbing or heavy-mix terrain where aggressive traction is required.

Practical features and inclusions

CC4U wear indicators on the side points help you plan timely maintenance or replacement

New dynamic anti-balling plates prevent snow buildup during long trips

Carrying case included for convenient packing and protection in transit

On the trail and in the snow — what to expect

In practice, you’ll notice a light feel on ascent and confident bite on firmer snow. The front platform supports a broad stance, and the 12-point layout provides multiple contact points for stability across mixed snow surfaces. When the terrain toggles between snowfields and light ice, the automatic bindings stay aligned with your boot’s welts, reducing the fiddling time between moves.

In short, the XLC 390 is built to support ski mountaineers and glacier travelers who value a lean profile, dependable performance, and straightforward maintenance. For those who rarely prioritize peak ice routes, this setup offers a compelling balance of weight, durability, and ease of use.

FAQ

Q: What makes CAMP XLC 390 Automatic Crampons stand out for ski mountaineering?

A: They are among the lightest 12-point crampons with a 3-D pressed frame and automatic bindings for secure boot compatibility.

Q: Are these crampons suitable for all boots and terrain?

A: They fit most rigid mountaineering boots with toe/heel welts (including A/T and telemark).
