Built with nylon rather than polyester, it offers a controlled stretch and improved grip on materials. This combination helps you achieve more uniform tension and wraps that stay where you place them. The result is a thread that adds color depth and a broader range of hues, especially in fluorescent orange, making your patterns stand out in the splash of water or light.

One standout design detail is the flat construction. By keeping twists to a minimum, the thread lays flatter on the hook, builds up more slowly, and wraps cleanly even on small dries or near the eye of the hook. A flatter wrap means less bulk, easier layering, and more predictable head formation—especially when time or conditions are tight in the vise.

Ultra Thread is lightly waxed, which reduces unwanted bulk and improves glide across materials. The wax also aids head cement penetration, contributing to a durable, lasting finish without requiring extra effort from the tyer.

Regarding its construction, Ultra Thread is a multifilament, not bonded. This gives it a supple feel that works well with split-thread techniques and a wider range of tying styles. It remains pliable while holding tension, making it a versatile choice for many fly patterns.

Key features at a glance:

Engineered specifically for fly tying

Available in 4 sizes and 33 brilliant colors to meet every tying need

Each spool contains 100 yards

Model Number UT7503

Spools designed to turn smoothly on standard bobbins with color-coded end caps

Why this thread can fit your kit

Flatter wraps reduce build-up, ideal for small flies and delicate patterns

Nylon’s color intensity brings richer hues and a broader color range

Light wax and unbonded multifilament construction offer smooth application and flexible use

Durable wraps with improved cement penetration help create clean, resilient heads

Whether you tie nymphs, dries, or streamers, UTC Ultra Thread provides a reliable, versatile option.
