CAMP TurboChest Red Chest Ascender – Dual Roller Rope Interface

Meet CAMP TurboChest Red, a chest ascender engineered for smoother ascent and longer rope life. Featuring two proprietary rollers, the device provides a refined rope interface that can make upward movement feel more fluid while reducing the rope’s rubbing against the body that can occur with traditional ascenders. The result is a more comfortable climb with improved control on complex routes.

With a perfectly profiled closure, the rope stays aligned along the device body and rollers, helping to prevent rope from slipping during tight pendulums and traverses. This design cue supports steadier rope handling and helps you maintain steadier contact with the rope path as you move through challenging sections of a climb. The combination of alignment and controlled rope feed can translate to a more confident rhythm on multi-pitch routes and traverses alike.

Key benefits

• Two proprietary rollers deliver a smoother rope interface, potentially boosting upward glide and reducing wear on the device.
• The profiled closure keeps the rope in line with the body and rollers to prevent rope escape during tight pendulums and traverses.
• Self-cleaning holes on both the body and the cam help maintain performance in rugged environments.
• Thicker body plates and a shaped connection point reduce wear when shifting between the device and the connector, especially with steel connectors, keeping the unit in line with the body during use.
• The opening mechanism is simple and secure, with the option to lock the device open for attachment and a removable pull cord that remains glove-friendly.
• Proprietary rollers enable the TurboChest to be rigged as a locking pulley for light hauling, up to 50 kg (110 lbs).

Durability, ease of use, and versatility

• Designed to stay aligned with the body, reducing unwanted rope drift and promoting steadier rope handling on traverses.
• Glove-friendly operation and a secure locking option make setup and use smoother, especially in cold or challenging conditions.
• The ability to double as a light-hauling pulley broadens potential applications beyond ascent alone, offering added versatility for climbers who value efficiency.

In real-world use, climbers may notice a more controlled feel when managing rope through complex features, along with reduced wear on the gear itself. The TurboChest Red aims to balance performance with durability, providing a practical option for those seeking a reliable chest ascender with added rope management features. While outcomes can vary by route and technique, the design intent is to support smoother movement, better rope alignment, and flexible usage without promising guaranteed results.
