Petzl AM'D BALL-LOCK Carabiner (Grey) – 27 kN Major Axis, Lightweight 70–75 g

Overview

The Petzl AM'D BALL-LOCK carabiner is designed to balance strength, ease of use, and versatility. Its asymmetrical D-shape naturally guides the load toward the major axis, the strongest point of the connector, making it a reliable choice for connecting belay devices, descenders, and positioning lanyards in a variety of scenarios.

Key benefits at a glance

• Optimized D-shape directs load to the major axis, promoting a secure connection during dynamic movements.
• Lightweight aluminum construction keeps weight in the comfortable 70–75 g range without sacrificing reliability.
• Snag-free clipping thanks to a Keylock nose and a streamlined interior designed to reduce hang-ups on webbing, ropes, or bolt hangers.
• Multiple locking variants to suit different safety needs: Screw-Lock, TriAct-Lock, Ball-Lock, and Twist-Lock.
• Color options for visibility or discretion: standard Gray/Yellow for high visibility, or matte Black (N series) for tactical rigging environments.

Performance and use cases

In everyday use, you might attach a belay device to secure a partner, clip into anchors during rope access, or rig a positioning lanyard on a climbs or stage rig setup. The 27 kN major-axis rating communicates strong performance for a lightweight connector, while the mass of roughly 70–75 g helps reduce fatigue on longer tasks. The snag-free nose minimizes fuss during setup, enabling smoother transitions between tasks in the field.

This carabiner is built to feel reliable in hand, with precise manufacturing that supports confident handling in varied environments. The AM'D Ball-Lock is designed for one-handed operation in changing conditions, such as chalk-dusted gloves or quick setup changes on breezy days. The array of locking options offers a balance of speed and security across different contexts—from fast rigging to deliberate locking in more demanding environments.

Locking options explained

• Screw-Lock: Red-indicator variant for clear locked-state confirmation.
• TriAct-Lock: Lift and twist mechanism for deliberate locking without accidental unlocking.
• Ball-Lock: Push button with twist for rapid, secure locking sequence.
• Twist-Lock: Pure twist mechanism for quick lock in routine tasks.
