Meet the Shimano 23 SLX DC bait reel, a right-hand model designed for anglers who value smooth operations, precise control, and durable components. This reel blends performance with practicality, making it a credible option for a wide range of casting and retrieving tasks.

Key engineering choices underpinning its performance include a spool crafted from super duralumin, a rigid aluminum frame, a high‑strength brass drive gear, and a carbon cross washer drag. The result is a lightweight, robust platform that can handle several line sizes and fishing styles without feeling oversized on the rod.

• Gear ratio 7.2 to 1 for crisp retrieves and responsive casting
• Maximum drag of 12.1 lbs (5.5 kg) for confident fights with medium to larger targets
• Maximum reel length of 29.5 inches (75 cm) when extended by the handle

The reel weighs about 7.1 oz (200 g) and offers a compact spool with a diameter of 1.3 inches and a width of 0.8 inches. Line capacity supports Nylon at 12-100, 14-90, 16-80, and 20-65 lb-m, delivering versatility for different setups and scenarios.

• Six bearings plus one roller support smooth rotation and steady line management
• Right-hand winding provides a comfortable grip for extended sessions

Real-world use and feel

On shorelines, jetties, or inshore waters, the 23 SLX DC can deliver controlled casts with a balanced feel that responders often notice in hand. The lightweight design helps reduce fatigue during long days on the water, while the solid construction remains reliable through varied weather and water conditions.

During jigging or slow-and-steady retrieves, the 7.2:1 gear ratio helps maintain a steady line flow. The DC braking system offers smooth deceleration under different conditions, contributing to consistent presentations without promising guaranteed outcomes.
