Overview

The Pale Morning Dun Sparkle Dun PMD set from The Fly Fishing Place brings a time-honored dry-fly pattern into today’s trout angling. Designed to mimic mayflies at the moment of emergence, this pattern offers a versatile option during hatches when selective fish may rise to cripples and emergers.

With a balanced profile that stays visible on the surface yet stays natural in the drift, these flies are built for real-world angling. Expect dependable performance across river, stream, and stillwater environments, especially on waters where trout key on mayfly emergers and duns during active hatches.

Key benefits at a glance

  • Mayfly emerger and dun imitation: Sparkle Dun PMD covers emerging mayflies (PMDs, BWOs, Sulphurs, Baetis and more) to tempt wary trout during hatches.
  • Trailing shuck realism: A sparkling shuck imitates the nymphal casing left behind during emergence, enhancing cripples and emergers as targets.
  • Low-riding, high-floating profile: Sparse deer hair and dubbing ride just in the surface film for a natural drift that remains visible to the angler.
  • Seasonal versatility: Varyed by hatch timing, the pattern adapts to spring, summer, and fall mayfly activity across rivers, streams, and stillwaters.
  • Durable, premium hand-tied construction: Built on quality hooks with top-tier materials for repeated use and reliable field performance.

Real-world use and tips

Anglers often fish this pattern on technical water where trout selectively feed on emergers. Pair with a floating line and draw tidy downstream drifts to maximize the natural presentation. It performs well during slow glides, riffles, and spring creeks where cripples are a common target.
