TIEMCO TMC 2488H Fly Tying Hook – Size 22 | Straight Eye, 3X Wide, Bronze

Meet the TIEMCO TMC 2488H fly tying hook, a newly designed option with a curved short shank. The straight eye opens up the gape in smaller sizes, expanding the range of patterns you can tie with confidence. This is the heavier wire version of the classic 2488, built for durability without sacrificing a compact profile.

Why this hook stands out for small patterns

Designed to support small, detailed patterns, the 2488H pairs a straight eye with a sturdy build. The combination can help secure delicate materials while still delivering a reliable hook setting in varied water conditions. The bronze finish adds a subtle, corrosion-resistant touch that stands up to long sessions on the water.

• 2X Short curved shank
• 2X Heavy, Bronze

In practice, the heavier wire contributes to durability during extended use and when tying compact flies, while the 3X wide gape helps you keep materials aligned and secure. The straight eye’s openness can facilitate clean knot integrity and easier tying of small patterns that benefit from a slightly larger bite on the hook face. For small stream outings or technical water, this hook offers a balance between strength and finesse.

Real-world use cases and considerations

Tiers targeting nymph, shrimp and caddis pupa patterns may appreciate the 2X short curved shank for a compact silhouette that still presents a strong hook point. The bronze wire not only looks classic but also lends durability against repeated casting and handling. While not a promise of results, many anglers find the 2488H to be a dependable option when selecting hooks for small, delicate patterns in a range of water speeds.

Who should consider this hook

Fly tiers who work with small patterns and want a slightly heavier wire without sacrificing a tight profile may find the 2488H appealing. It is well suited for those who fish nymphs, shrimp and caddis pupae and value an open gape in the smaller sizes for better material flow and hook exposure.
