Umpqua Metz Hatch Hackle Bundle 18 Baetis | Premium Fly Tying Hackle for Baetis, PMD & Caddis Hatches

Overview

The Umpqua Metz Hatch Hackle Bundle 18 Baetis brings together carefully selected Metz hackle designed to help you imitate Baetis, PMD, and Caddis hatches with confidence. Sourced from Cape or neck feathers on select roosters and refined through decades of genetic breeding, this hackle offers buoyancy and responsive texture that can elevate your fly tying. The three-pack format provides a practical range of sizes and colors so you can tailor each pattern to the water, light, and hatch you expect to encounter.

Designed for versatility, this bundle emphasizes lifelike movement in the water and a clean, durable profile on the hook. The fibers are chosen for consistent stiffness, which helps you maintain shape as you wrap and secure the hackle. With Metz hatch hackle, tyers gain a reliable tool that supports a range of Baetis- and general mayfly-inspired patterns without compromising buoyancy or color fidelity over time.

Quality and sourcing

Metz feathers are prized for their symmetry, density, and even taper. Because they come from cape or neck stock, the hackle maintains a balanced extra stiffness that resists flattening during a long tying session. The result is consistent pickup when you grab your thread, and a more predictable sit on the hook that helps your imitations ride naturally in the surface film and just below.

How to use and real-world benefits

Use sizes that correspond to your body length and the specific Baetis or PMD hatch you’re targeting. The assortment of colors and lengths helps you mirror natural mayfly patterns under varying light conditions, while buoyant fibers help your dry- or emerger-style patterns maintain a lifelike profile during presentation.

• Choose a matching size to body length and target hatch.
• Pair with complementary thread colors for realistic segmentation.
• Rely on buoyant hackle to help the fly ride in the surface film when needed.
• Store in a dry, protected box to preserve stiffness and color over time.
