UTC Ultra Wire Large Green Metallic – Non-Tarnishing Copper for Fly Tying

UTC Ultra Wire Large Green Metallic is a non-tarnishing copper wire designed for fly tying, offering a bright, durable finish that stays consistent through long tying sessions. This wire provides a clean, steady wrap that can help establish ribbing, body, and flash with a single material.

Use it to add weight and subtle shine to ribbing and body wraps, helping create defined profiles on a wide range of patterns. The copper wire is sized to cover tiny to large flies, giving you flexibility in the vise and in the field.

Sizing and how to choose

• XS: recommended for ribbing on size 20 or smaller flies.
• Small: a versatile, all-purpose option for many patterns.
• Brassie: ideal for wire bodied flies sizes 18-22 and ribbing on most trout patterns.
• Medium: a good choice for ribbing on size 8-12 nymphs.
• Large: popular for streamers and/or large stonefly nymph patterns.

What this wire can bring to your tying

• Non-tarnishing copper maintains a bright appearance longer.
• Adds weight to help shape and balance hulls and rib sections.
• Adds flash to catch the eye in varied light and water.
• Suitable for ribbing and wire bodies across many fly styles.
• Quality material designed for consistent wrapping and durability.

In practice, you might use this wire to build a slim rib under a delicate shell on a small mayfly pattern, or to craft a more substantial wire body on a streamer. The green metallic sheen can provide a visible silhouette while preserving a natural look in different water conditions. When handling, maintain even tension and cut cleanly with proper nippers, then secure wraps with light, deliberate turns.

Choosing UTC means adding a versatile tool to your fly tying kit. While results depend on technique and pattern, this wire offers reliable material characteristics that many tyers appreciate for controlled shaping, consistent shine, and a durable finish across seasons.
