Wapsi Sow-Scud Back 1/8 in Olive | Flexible Fly Tying Material

Overview

Wapsi's Sow-Scud Back is a dyed, translucent, highly elastic material designed for modern fly tying. Its pliable, slightly glossy surface lets patterns breathe and move with the water, giving nymphs, scuds, sowbugs, crawfish, caddis, and midges a lifelike presence on the hook.

Classic width and new micro-size

The olive Sow-Scud Back is available in the traditional 1/8 inch width, a trusted option for larger formulations. A compact 2 mm size (about 5/64 inch) has been added, expanding possibilities for tying small patterns in size 16–24.

Key benefits

• Flexible and translucent construction for natural movement
• Versatile use as a wing case, segmented abdomen, or full-body wrap
• Essential for Czech-style nymphs, offering clean, slim silhouettes
• 18 color options to match water and hatch timing
• Lightweight feel that layers well with other materials
• Model number SK8089 for reference

How to use

Wrap Sow-Scud Back along the body to form a translucent sheath or wrap over the thorax for a tapered abdomen. Use it as a wing case to create a crisp silhouette or pair with other materials to craft Czech-style nymphs.

Tying tips

• Keep the material taut to maintain a clean line on the fly
